Homebuyer Education

Wednesday, December 3, 2025 (4:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (MST)

Description

NeighborWorks Pocatello has partnered with Idaho Housing and Finance Association to offer the “Finally Home!” Homebuyer Education course. The course is available to all Southeast Idaho residents regardless as to where they are at in the home buying process.  The next class is scheduled for December 3rd and December 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. both nights and will be held at the NeighborWorks Pocatello’s office located at 206 N Arthur Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204. December's event will feature industry experts, a hot cocoa bar, door prizes, and a light dinner each night.

The course provides a comprehensive overview of what to expect in preparation for buying and owning a home.  Topics include household budgeting, responsible use of credit, working with a real estate agent, mortgage financing, insurance, home inspections, and more.

Completing a homebuyer education class prior to purchasing a home can help the buyer demystify what is often a complex and intimidating process.  Further, attendees benefit in other ways, such as being significantly less likely to default on their mortgage loan at a later point.  “Participants in our course are able manage the process with the confidence that comes from having access to useful information, as well as an advocate to help answer their questions and accomplish their goals” says Sean Hargraves, housing counselor for NeighborWorks Pocatello. “Completing a class in homebuyer education can give the new owner the knowledge they need to be successful in managing the various responsibilities of homeownership.”

NeighborWorks Pocatello offers the homebuyer education class on a recurring basis.  Classes are eight hours in length and either held on a Saturday, or divided into parts over two consecutive evenings during the week.  Cost is $10.  Upon completion, participants are eligible for a graduation certificate, which is often required to qualify for certain mortgage loan programs.  If you would like more information or would like to sign up for the course, visit the NeighborWorks Pocatello office at 206 N. Arthur Ave. or call 208-232-9468.
